Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a goal-oriented, future-focused approach that concentrates on building solutions rather than analysing problems. It helps individuals identify their strengths and resources, encouraging positive change by focusing on what is working and what they want to achieve.
SFBT works by exploring clients' goals, highlighting past successes and identifying small, achievable steps toward their preferred future. The therapist uses questions to guide reflection and uncover solutions, helping clients build confidence and clarity through a constructive, strengths-based perspective.
SFBT is suitable for individuals, couples and families facing a wide range of issues, including stress, anxiety, relationship challenges or life decisions. It is especially useful for those looking for a brief, practical therapy that focuses on outcomes and forward movement.
In a session, clients are encouraged to describe their desired outcomes and explore times when the problem was less present. The therapist asks focused questions, such as the “miracle question,” and helps the client recognise their own abilities to create meaningful change.
