Bereavement
Bereavement is the period of mourning and emotional adjustment that follows the death of someone significant.
Bereavement involves a complex process of grief as individuals come to terms with a significant loss. It is a deeply personal experience that can vary greatly in intensity and duration depending on the relationship and circumstances.
Common experiences during bereavement include profound sadness, shock, disbelief, anger, or guilt. Many people also report physical symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disturbances, or changes in appetite, along with difficulty concentrating and feeling emotionally numb or overwhelmed. Grief may come in waves, triggered by memories, anniversaries, or everyday reminders of the person who has passed.
Bereavement can affect all areas of life, making it difficult to focus at work or school, maintain relationships, or find enjoyment in usual activities. Over time, some people may struggle with prolonged grief or depression, while others may gradually find ways to adjust, remember their loved one meaningfully, and rebuild a sense of normalcy.
