Bipolar
Bipolar is a mental health condition that can cause significant distress and may require medical and therapeutic support.
Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition characterised by significant shifts in mood, energy, and activity levels, ranging from emotional highs (mania or hypomania) to lows (depression). These mood changes can be intense and disruptive, affecting a person's thoughts, behaviours, and ability to function day-to-day.
People with bipolar disorder may experience periods of elevated mood where they feel unusually energetic, talkative, or impulsive, followed by episodes of deep sadness, hopelessness, or exhaustion. During manic phases, they might have racing thoughts, reduced need for sleep, and an inflated sense of confidence, while depressive episodes often bring low motivation, difficulty concentrating, and withdrawal from others.
These extreme mood swings can impact relationships, work, and overall stability, sometimes leading to financial difficulties, health issues, or challenges in maintaining routines. However, with the right treatment and support—including therapy, medication, and lifestyle management—many individuals with bipolar disorder can lead fulfilling, balanced lives.
