Bipolar I
Bipolar I is a mental health issue that can impact individuals in different ways. Understanding and addressing it through therapy can lead to improved well-being and quality of life.
Bipolar 1 is a complex mental health challenge marked by extreme mood swings that include manic episodes and often depressive episodes. The key feature is at least one full manic episode, which may be severe and can require hospitalisation. It often requires personalised understanding, support, therapy and medication.
People with Bipolar 1 have manic episodes that involve elevated or irritable mood, increased energy, reduced need for sleep, impulsive behaviour, racing thoughts, and inflated self-esteem. These symptoms last at least 7 days or are severe enough to need urgent care. Depressive episodes often follow, with symptoms like low mood, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness, and loss of interest in usual activities.
Bipolar I can interfere with your relationships, work, and overall well-being. It may make it harder to enjoy daily life or manage stress effectively. You may experience periods of stability between episodes. The condition is lifelong but can be managed with a combination of medication, therapy, and lifestyle support.
