Cancer
Cancer is an illness which can impact people of any age. It can be life-threatening and sufferers may benefit from psychological support as they journey through a treatment program.
Cancer refers to a group of diseases characterised by the uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells in the body, which can invade nearby tissues and potentially spread to other parts of the body through the blood or lymph systems. It can develop in almost any part of the body and includes many types, such as breast, lung, prostate, and blood cancers.
People diagnosed with cancer often experience a wide range of physical and emotional symptoms, including fatigue, pain, changes in appetite or weight, and side effects from treatments like chemotherapy or radiation. Emotionally, they may face fear, anxiety, sadness, or uncertainty, especially when navigating diagnosis, treatment options, and the impact on their lives and loved ones.
Cancer can profoundly affect a person’s life, influencing their physical abilities, emotional wellbeing, relationships, and sense of identity. It may lead to lifestyle changes, time away from work or school, financial stress, and a shift in priorities, but many also find strength, resilience, and deeper perspective during their experience.
