Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder
Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder is a serious mental health condition that can impact individuals and those around them in different ways. Understanding and addressing it through therapy can lead to improved well-being and quality of life.
Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder (CSBD) is a mental health condition characterised by a persistent pattern of intense, repetitive sexual urges and behaviours that are difficult to control, and which cause significant distress or impairment in personal, social, or occupational functioning. It involves acting on these impulses in ways that feel out of alignment with one’s values or that interfere with everyday life.
People with CSBD may feel unable to resist engaging in sexual activities despite negative consequences, often experiencing shame, guilt, or a sense of being out of control. Common experiences include frequent preoccupation with sexual thoughts, using sex as a coping mechanism for emotional distress, and repeated unsuccessful attempts to reduce or manage behaviours.
This disorder can significantly affect a person's well-being, leading to strained relationships, loss of trust, problems at work, and emotional turmoil. It may also increase the risk of financial or legal issues, while the cycle of secrecy and self-blame can worsen feelings of isolation and mental health struggles.
