Hypomania
Hypomania is a mental health issue often seen in bipolar disorder that can impact individuals in different ways. Understanding and addressing it through therapy can lead to improved well-being and quality of life.
Hypomania is a milder form of mania often seen in bipolar II disorder. It involves elevated mood, increased energy, and impulsive behavior. Causes can include genetic factors, chemical imbalances, sleep disruption, substance use, or stressful life events triggering mood shifts.
People experiencing hypomania may feel unusually energetic, talkative, confident, or restless. They might sleep less, engage in risky behaviors, or become easily distracted. Unlike full mania, hypomania doesn't cause severe impairment, but the behaviour is noticeably different from the person’s usual self.
Though hypomania may seem positive at times, it can impair judgment and lead to long-term consequences, like financial or relationship problems. Treatment often includes mood stabilizers, therapy, and lifestyle management to reduce triggers and maintain balanced moods. Early intervention is important.
