Insomnia
Insomnia and Insomnia Disorder is a sleep disorder which can significantly impact the mental health of individuals in different ways. Understanding and addressing it through therapy can lead to improved well-being and quality of life.
Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterized by difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking too early. Causes include stress, anxiety, poor sleep habits, medical conditions, or stimulants like caffeine. It may be short-term or chronic, depending on underlying factors.
People with insomnia often lie awake for long periods, wake up frequently during the night, or feel unrested after sleep. This leads to daytime fatigue, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and reduced motivation. Many also feel frustrated or anxious about their inability to sleep.
Insomnia affects mental and physical health, contributing to mood disorders, weakened immunity, and decreased performance. Treatment includes cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), lifestyle changes, and sometimes short-term use of sleep aids. Long-term success often comes from addressing root causes and improving sleep hygiene.
