Misophonia
Misophonia is a mental health concern that may require therapeutic support.
Misophonia is a strong emotional reaction like anger, anxiety, or disgust, to specific sounds. Common triggers include chewing, sniffing, tapping, or breathing noises. These sounds can feel unbearable, even when others don’t notice them at all.
People with misophonia might feel instantly irritated or panicked by certain everyday noises. They may avoid social situations, use headphones often, or feel misunderstood. Reactions can be intense and feel out of proportion, but they’re very real and distressing.
Misophonia can affect relationships, work, and self-esteem. It’s not just about being “sensitive” as it can be overwhelming. Therapy can help by exploring emotional triggers, reducing distress through coping strategies, and supporting confidence in navigating daily life.
