Narcolepsy
Narcolepsy is a sleep-related neurological disorder which can significantly impact mental health. Understanding and addressing it through therapy can lead to improved well-being and quality of life.
Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological condition that affects the brain’s ability to regulate sleep-wake cycles. People with narcolepsy often feel extremely sleepy during the day and may suddenly fall asleep, even during normal activities.
Symptoms can include sudden muscle weakness (cataplexy), vivid dreams, sleep paralysis, and difficulty staying awake. It can be unpredictable and impact work, school, driving, or social life. Many people feel misunderstood or frustrated by others’ lack of awareness.
Narcolepsy can lead to embarrassment, low mood, anxiety, or isolation. Therapy can help by offering emotional support, coping strategies for managing daily life, and space to process the impact of living with a misunderstood and often invisible condition.
