Night Terrors
Night Terrors are a sleep issue that can impact individuals and those around them in different ways. Understanding and supporting individuals through therapy may lead to improved well-being and quality of life.
Night terrors are episodes of intense fear during sleep, often involving screaming, thrashing, or confusion. Unlike nightmares, the person usually doesn’t wake fully or remember the event, which can make them especially distressing for those around them.
They often happen in children but can affect adults too. A person may sit up, shout, or appear terrified without being aware of it. These episodes disrupt sleep and can cause fear, confusion, or embarrassment afterwards.
Night terrors can impact sleep quality, daily mood, and emotional wellbeing. Therapy can help by exploring underlying stress, anxiety, or trauma, and teaching relaxation strategies or sleep routines to reduce their frequency and emotional impact over time.
