Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) is a condition seen in children or young people that may require therapeutic support for them and their carers.
ODD is a behavioural condition where a child or young person shows ongoing patterns of anger, irritability, arguing, or defiance towards authority figures. These behaviours go beyond typical testing of limits and persist over time.
Children with ODD may frequently lose their temper, refuse to follow rules, or deliberately annoy others. They might struggle with frustration, low self-esteem, or feel misunderstood, often leading to challenges at home, school, or in friendships.
ODD can cause stress for families and affect a child’s emotional and social development. Therapy helps by teaching emotional regulation, problem-solving, and communication skills. It also supports parents in managing behaviours with understanding and consistency.
