Paedophilic Disorder (Paedophilia)
Paedophilic Disorder (Paedophilia) is a serious mental health issue. Understanding and addressing it through professional, specialised support can reduce risk of harm to individuals and those around them.
Paedophilic Disorder involves persistent sexual attraction to prepubescent children, typically under age 13. It is only diagnosed when these thoughts cause significant distress or lead to actions that put others or oneself at risk of harm.
People with this disorder may feel deep shame, fear, or isolation. They might struggle with intrusive thoughts, guilt, or confusion about their identity. Many never act on these thoughts but experience significant emotional and psychological distress.
Left untreated, paedophilic disorder can affect mental health, relationships, and self-worth. Therapy provides a confidential space to understand urges, manage risk, and develop strategies for safety, self-control, and healthier ways of coping—while always prioritising the protection of others.
