Parasomnias
Parasomnias are a sleep disorders that can impact individuals and their mental health in different ways. Understanding and addressing it through therapy can lead to improved well-being and quality of life.
Parasomnias are disruptive sleep disorders involving unusual behaviours, movements, or experiences during sleep. This includes things like sleepwalking, night terrors, talking in sleep, or acting out dreams, often without the person remembering it afterwards.
People with parasomnias may feel confused, tired, or anxious about what happens during the night. These episodes can disturb sleep for them or others and may cause embarrassment, injury, or fear of sleeping alone or away from home.
Parasomnias can impact sleep quality, mood, and confidence. Therapy helps by exploring stress, trauma, or emotional triggers that may contribute to episodes. Cognitive and behavioural strategies can also support better sleep routines and reduce the frequency of disturbances.
