Postnatal depression is a type of depression that can develop after giving birth. It’s more than the “baby blues” and can affect any new parent, causing deep sadness, anxiety, or detachment during what’s expected to be a joyful time.
People may feel overwhelmed, guilty, tearful, or disconnected from their baby. There can be trouble sleeping, eating, or bonding, even with lots of support. Many feel ashamed or fear being judged, which makes asking for help difficult.
