Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a chronic mental health concern that requires multidisciplinary intervention and therapeutic support.
Schizophrenia is a chronic mental health condition that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves. It often involves psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, disorganised thinking, and a distorted sense of reality. It typically develops in late adolescence or early adulthood.
People with schizophrenia may hear voices, believe things that are not true, or have trouble organising their thoughts. Daily tasks can become challenging. Some may withdraw socially, show reduced emotional expression, or experience difficulty concentrating, which can affect relationships, education, and employment.
Schizophrenia can significantly disrupt a person's life and independence. It may cause isolation, stigma, and emotional distress. However, therapy, particularly cognitive-behavioural approaches alongside medication, can improve coping skills, reduce symptom severity, and support recovery. Early intervention and ongoing support are key to managing the condition.
