Sexual Abuse
Experiencing Sexual Abuse causes significant trauma to individuals and can cause untold harm to their mental wellbeing. Therapy may be helpful for survivors on their journey to recovery.
Sexual abuse is any unwanted sexual activity or behaviour where consent is not freely given. It can involve coercion, manipulation, or force and may happen to people of any age or gender. It includes physical acts and non-contact abuse like grooming.
Survivors of sexual abuse may feel fear, shame, confusion, or guilt. They might struggle with trust, experience flashbacks, nightmares, or avoid reminders of the abuse. Some stay silent for years due to fear of not being believed or feelings of helplessness and isolation.
Sexual abuse can cause long-term emotional, psychological, and physical trauma. It may affect relationships, self-worth, and mental health, leading to conditions like PTSD, depression, or anxiety. Therapy provides a safe space to process experiences, rebuild trust, and support healing and empowerment.
