Sleep Disorders
Sleep Disorders can impact the mental health of individuals who may then benefit from therapeutic support.
Sleep disorders are conditions that disturb normal sleep patterns, affecting the ability to fall asleep, stay asleep, or get restful sleep. Common types include insomnia, sleep apnoea, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy, each impacting sleep in different ways and severities.
People with sleep disorders may struggle with fatigue, irritability, difficulty concentrating, or waking up feeling unrefreshed. Some may wake frequently during the night or fall asleep unexpectedly during the day. Sleep problems often develop gradually and may be linked to stress, anxiety, or physical health issues.
Chronic sleep issues can affect mental and physical health, leading to depression, anxiety, weakened immunity, and reduced quality of life. Therapy, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), helps identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviours to promote healthy, consistent sleep patterns.
