Theraplay
Theraplay is a structured form of play therapy that focuses on building strong, secure attachments between children and their caregivers. It uses fun, interactive activities to support emotional connection, confidence, and trust through positive shared experiences.
Theraplay works by recreating early bonding experiences using play that is nurturing, engaging, and attuned. The therapist guides activities that help regulate emotions, develop attachment, and strengthen relational patterns, all within a safe, supportive setting that promotes joy and responsiveness.
Theraplay is especially beneficial for young children who have experienced trauma, neglect, or attachment difficulties. It is also useful for adoptive or foster families, or any child struggling with emotional regulation, social interaction, or feeling connected and secure with caregivers.
In a Theraplay session, the child and caregiver engage in playful, structured activities led by the therapist. These may include games, nurturing touch, or shared tasks, all designed to increase connection, confidence, and emotional safety within the parent-child relationship.
