Tourettes Syndrome
Tourettes Syndrome can significantly impact the mental health of individuals who may benefit from therapeutic support.
Tourette’s is a neurological condition characterised by involuntary motor and vocal tics that begin in childhood. These tics are repetitive movements or sounds that occur suddenly. The condition varies in severity and is often associated with other neurodevelopmental or behavioural disorders.
People with Tourette’s may experience blinking, head jerking, throat clearing, or shouting out words. Tics often change over time and may worsen with stress or excitement. Many individuals feel a strong urge before a tic and temporary relief afterward, making them difficult to suppress.
Tourette’s can affect confidence, social interactions, and school or work performance. People may face misunderstanding or bullying. Therapy, particularly Comprehensive Behavioural Intervention for Tics (CBIT), helps individuals manage tics, cope with emotional stress, and improve quality of life through practical behavioural strategies.
