Transactional Analysis
Transactional Analysis (TA) therapy is a versatile form of psychotherapy that explores how people communicate and relate to others. It examines social interactions, or “transactions,” and helps individuals understand patterns rooted in early life experiences and developed personality states.
TA therapy works by identifying three ego states: Parent, Adult and Child, which influence thoughts, behaviours and feelings. By analysing interactions and inner dialogue, clients become more aware of their responses, challenge unhelpful patterns and develop healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.
Transactional Analysis is suitable for individuals, couples and groups dealing with relationship issues, low self-esteem, anxiety, or emotional difficulties. It is useful for those wanting insight into communication styles, emotional triggers and decision-making processes shaped by early life experiences.
In a TA session, the therapist helps the client explore specific interactions, internal conflicts or emotional reactions. Techniques may include dialogue, journaling or role-play. The focus is on recognising ego states, gaining insight into patterns and developing more effective, autonomous ways of thinking and relating.
