Hello, my name is Debbie and I am an integrative counsellor that offers short or long-term counselling. I have received training in online and telephone counselling and aim to provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore what is worrying you.
I have several years’ experience working as a counsellor and I have supported adults of all ages with various difficulties. I believe therapy is most effective when it is based on a collaborative and trusting relationship between counsellor and client. Working together means we can agree a therapeutic approach that suits your needs and at a pace that is comfortable for you.
MY EXPERIENCE
Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years working in business and local government. Working as a personal assistant gave me insight into the corporate world and the pressures that can come with it. In recent years I worked in education supporting adults with autism, ADHD and/or dyslexia. I am also a mum of grown up children and have personal experience of neurodivergence. My experiences have deepened my understanding of neurodivergence and shaped my flexible approach to therapy.
Alongside my private work, I also work as a counsellor supporting people with chronic illness including long covid. I am aware of the complexities of living with chronic illness and the grief that can happen as people adust to the changes in their lives.
I have qualifications in counselling and psychotherapy up to post graduate level and undertake continuous professional development to further develop my knowledge and skills. I am also a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and follow their ethical framework for good practice.
MY APPROACH
I draw on different types of therapeutic approaches to best suit your individual needs and goals. This includes cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), psychodynamic and person-centred approaches. I also use creative elements and am happy to share resources for those who would like further reading or tools for self-reflection.
Whatever approaches we use, my role is to walk alongside you and to offer support and compassion as you explore your difficulties and what may lie beneath them. By becoming more self-aware you can discover strengths and inner resources that you may not be aware of. This can help rebuild self-esteem that can so often become diminished due to difficulties we encounter in life.
HOW TO CONTACT ME
If you have any questions before deciding to book your first session, please message me via the above link. I will reply as soon as possible but please check your spam folder should my reply have gone there.
If you would like a quick chat, I'm happy to arrange that via video link.
THE FIRST SESSION
The first session involves me asking questions about your current issues and what you hope to get out of therapy. This is also a chance for you to see if I'm the right therapist for you. It can take a few sessions for the counselling relationship to develop but the first session can give you an idea of whether I am someone you are comfortable with and can trust.
If we agree to continue working together, we will organise our next session. Ideally sessions are held weekly but I can accommodate sessions every two weeks. As counselling progresses and you start to feel stronger and more confident you may want sessions further apart. I am happy to accommodate that once the counselling relationship has established.
Fees are £45 for a 50 minute session payable in advance. I can offer reduced rates to those with limited finances - please enquire if you would like to discuss this option.
Thankyou for reading my bio. I look forward to the possibility of meeting you.
